(SKOKIE) A 70-year-old Chicago woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in north suburban Skokie.

Rescue crews responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at 5:53 p.m. in the 5500 block of West Touhy Avenue, Skokie Police Sgt. Tim Gramins said.

Mariana Ioan, 70, was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she later died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Ioan lived in the 5000 block of North Kenmore, authorities said.

The driver stayed at the scene of the crash, Gramins said. No charges or citations had been filed as of Friday evening.

Touhy was closed to traffic between Niles Center Road and Central Avenue for nearly six hours as crews cleared the scene.
