A man was shot early Sunday while traveling on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The man, whose exact age was not immediately known, was shot about 12:40 a.m. while he was a passenger in a vehicle traveling westbound on I-290 near Laramie Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

The driver of the vehicle sped off after the man was dropped off at Loretto Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.

“They dumped him at the hospital and ran,” said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Michael Dolis. “No witnesses, no cars. Just a victim at the hospital.”

Outbound lanes of the Eisenhower were temporarily closed to traffic between Laramie and Central Avenue, but all lanes were reopened about 1:35 a.m., state police said.
