A man was shot Saturday afternoon during an attempted robbery in the South Shore neighborhood.

The 29-year-old was working on his car about 1:45 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Manistee when someone walked up and tried to rob him, police said.

The man’s girlfriend was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle at the time, according to a police report. When the man didn’t immediately hand over his property, the attempted robber held the gun to the girlfriend’s head.

The 29-year-old then ran away and the gunman opened fire, police said.

He was shot in the leg and taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
