Chicago’s Jeremih charged, accused of holding up plane

R&B star Jeremih, a Chicago native, and two others face charges in New Jersey after one of the men allegedly opened a door to a boarding ramp at Newark International Airport after it had been closed to prepare for takeoff.

Port Authority police say a member of the 27-year-old “Don’t Tell ‘Em” singer’s party tried opening the door Friday in an attempt to get his tardy fellow travelers on board the Phoenix-bound flight.

Jeremih, identified by police as Jeremy Felton, was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of administration of law. A second man faces the same charges while a third is charged with defiant trespass for allegedly opening the door.

A spokesman for Port Authority police says all three men were released without incident and ordered to appear before a judge.

An email to a representative at his label, Def Jam, was not immediately returned.

It’s the second round of alleged bad behavior in recent weeks for Jeremih, who last month was accused of throwing beer bottles at a Fuddrucker’s in Billings, Montana. The case is awaiting review of possible charges.

A Morgan Park High grad, Jeremih broke out with the 2009 hit “Birthday Sex” and followed up with the top-selling singles “Down on Me” and this year’s “Don’t Tell ‘Em.”
