Joseph Toye is Young’s headline player this season, but after spending last season at La Lumeire in Indiana, not many area fans have a real sense of his game.

So Sunday at the Chi-Town Conference Showdown was a chance for Toye to introduce himself and he took full advantage, scoring 17 points to lead the Dolphins to an 80-66 win over Orr.

“It was my chance to show the city what I can do,” Toye said. “It was fun in front of the big crowd.”

Young (2-1) took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Spartans 19-10. Freshman guard Justin Boyd had a solid debut, scoring 12 points. He was 3-for-3 from 3-point range.

“He’s going to be one of the next stars here,” Toye said.

Anthony Mosely and Willie Herenton each scored 12 and sophomore Lucas Williamson added 11 for the Dolphins.

“I think we missed 15 or 16 free throws,” Young coach Tyrone Slaughter said. “So that’s a problem. But I was pleased with the effort.”

Boyd wasn’t the only impressive freshman. Raekwon Drake, a 6-5 forward, scored 13 and grabbed five boards for Orr (2-1).
