Aurora house fire causes $70K in damages

(AURORA) A house fire Sunday afternoon in west suburban Aurora caused an estimated $70,000 in damages, fire officials said.

Firefighters responding to the blaze about 3 p.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Burnett Drive found fire coming from an upstairs window in the back of the building, according to a statement from the Aurora Fire Department.

Neighbors discovered the fire and called the fire department; no one was in the home at the time, fire officials said.

The blaze was extinguished about 3:30 p.m. and no firefighters were injured, fire officials said. The home was rendered uninhabitable and the residents are staying with friends.

Fire officials estimated the damages to the building at $50,000 and damages to it contents at $20,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Aurora Fire Department Arson Team.
