Phil Brozynski’s girls basketball notes

1. Benet improved to 11-0 with its 81-48 win over Wheaton Warrenville South in the Naperville North/Benet Christmas Tournament last weekend. The Redwings will try to wrap up the title this weekend when they play Providence on Friday and Naperville North on Saturday. Seniors Emily Eshoo and Emily Schramek both average 17 points per game for Benet, which also gets 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals per game from junior point guard Kathleen Doyle.

2. Romeoville staggered to a 7-21 finish in 2013-2014 after going 27-4 the year before and winning a regional. The Spartans are collecting interest this season. Romeoville sits at 5-4 and 2-1 in the Southwest Prairie after last week’s 58-51 win over Plainfield South. Romeoville is led by sophomore point guard Lexi Marin, last year’s leading scorer who had 22 against Plainfield South, junior center Nadia Harris, 6-foot freshman center Jahari Smith and forward Cherish Smith.

3. One would have to go pretty far back — all the way to the mid-’90s — to find the last time Hillcrest lost a home conference game. Reavis changed that last Tuesday. The Rams ended the Hawks’ 125-game conference home win streak with a 67-51 victory in a South Suburban crossover. Reavis got 22 points from Natalie Dudek and 21 from Katelyn LoRusso. Joshulyn Shepard had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Hillcrest.
