Five people were killed and at least 16 others wounded in shootings across the city between Saturday and Sunday afternoon, police said.
The most recent fatal shooting happened Sunday evening in the West Pullman neighborhood.
About 5 p.m., police found a 30-year-old man unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 11600 block of South Racine with a gunshot wound to his back, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death.
A pair of recent fatal shootings happened within minutes of each other early Sunday.
About 3:10 a.m., someone opened fire during a party in the basement of an apartment in the 800 block of South Oakley.
A 24-year-old man was shot multiple times in the face and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, police said. The medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
A 33-year-old man shot in the chest and back was taken to Stroger, and a 26-year-old man shot in the abdomen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. Both were listed in critical condition, police said.
Five minutes later a 27-year-old man was found shot dead inside a vehicle in Old Town on the Near North Side.
The man’s car had struck several parked cars before coming to a stop where officers found him about 3:15 a.m. in the 400 block of West Evergreen, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality but did not release additional details early Sunday.
Another vehicle was seen leaving the scene but police did not have a description.
Saturday afternoon, a Humboldt Park neighborhood shooting on the West Side left a 22-year-old man dead.
About 2 p.m., Anthony Jackson was in a vehicle heading north in the 700 block of North Hamlin when a car pulled alongside him and someone inside opened fire, striking him in the back, according to police and the medical examiner’s office said.
Jackson, of the 300 block of West Lexington, was taken to Mount Sinai, where he was later pronounced dead at 3:02 p.m., authorities said.
A woman died after she was shot in the head Saturday night outside her West Side Humboldt Park home, police said.
Zoraida Feliciano, 33, and a man were parking in front of their home in the 3700 block of West Potomac about 6:45 p.m. when the man got out of the vehicle to go inside and get the Feliciano’s child, officials said.
As the man got out of the vehicle, a white Toyota Camry pulled up. A male got out of the backseat and began firing at the vehicle, according to the report.
Feliciano, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was shot in the head near her ear, according to the report. The man heard the shots and saw her slump forward. The white car fled westbound on Potomac, according to the report.
The man got back into the Camry and began driving the woman to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, but crashed at Division and California, police said.
The man was not hurt in the crash.
An ambulance arrived and took Feliciano to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:03 a.m., according to medical examiner’s office.
The most recent non-fatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood.
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg about 3:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Carpenter, police said.
He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital where his condition had stabilized, police said.
At least 13 other people have been hurt in separate shootings since 2 p.m. Saturday.
