Man, 83, struck and killed by vehicle in Homewood

(HOMEWOOD) An elderly man died early Wednesday after he was was fatally struck by a vehicle in south suburban Homewood.

Joseph Coghlan, 83, was struck near 183rd Street and Gottschalk Avenue, about a tenth of a mile from his home, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. A representative for Homewood police could not be reached for more details.

Coghlan, of the 1800 block of 183rd Street in Homewood, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead Wednesday at 5:13 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Thursday found Coglan died of head injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.
