Police officer injured while investigating suspicious person in Batavia

(BATAVIA) A Batavia police officer was struck from behind and injured early Monday while investigating a suspicious person in the western suburb.

The officer was attempting to contact the suspicious person, who was standing between two vehicles, looking inside, about 3:05 a.m. in the 1100 block of West Wilson Street, according to a statement from the Batavia Police Department.

As the officer exited the squad car and a second person, unseen by the officer, struck the officer from behind several times before both suspects ran away, police said. Other officers responded, but could not find the suspects.

The officer was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
