The body of a homeless man was discovered Saturday afternoon near a northwest suburban park, authorities said.

A man, also homeless, found the body outside of his tent in a secluded area of Wing Park, 1000 Wing St., Elgin Fire Department Battalion Chief Terry Bruce said. Elgin police said the man was found close to the park in a forested area between two sets of railroad tracks.

The death is not suspicious, police said. The man’s name was not released Monday morning pending family notification.

Paramedics responded to the scene about 1 p.m. and removed the body, Bruce said.

“It was quite an ordeal to get him out of there because he was back in the woods far away,” Bruce said.

Crews had to ask Metra to briefly shut down service in the area so they could get the body over the railroad tracks, Bruce said.
