Man robs third South Side bank in less than a month

A man carried out his third South Side bank robbery in less than a month with an Auburn Gresham neighborhood heist on Friday morning.

The man walked into the Citi Bank branch at 2000 W. 79th St. about 10:45 a.m., passing a note demanding money from a teller and showing a handgun, according to Chicago Police and the FBI.

He then took off in a gray van, police said.

The man is suspected in an Oct. 28 robbery at the Fifth Third Bank branch at 8140 S. Ashland, as well as the Oct. 18 robbery of an ABC Bank branch at 9443 S. Ashland, authorities said.

The man did not show a gun in the first two robberies, authorities said.

He is described as a black man between 25 and 30, and about 5-foot-8, authorities said. During the Oct. 18 robbery, he was wearing a black puffy vest, black long-sleeve shirt, faded black pants and black skull cap with a brim.
