A pizza delivery driver died Tuesday after he was shot in the head during an attempted robbery on the Northwest Side early Monday.

Abylbek Yzabekov, 31, was delivering a pizza in the 5400 block of North East River Road about 12:20 a.m. while a friend waited in his car, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Two males, one armed with a handgun, walked up to the car and announced a robbery as the delivery man was returning, police said. The armed male fired shots, striking him in the head.

Yzabekov, who lived in the block where the shooting happened, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he died at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

His friend was not injured.

The suspects ran off after the shooting without any money, police said.
