Man shot to death in Hammond

(HAMMOND, Ind.) A northwest Indiana man died Tuesday night after he was shot in Hammond.

Martin Hurtado, 45, of the 800 block of State Street in Hammond, was fatally shot in the same block where he lived, according to the Lake County Coroner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Hurtado was pronounced dead at Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond at 10:14 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

Hammond police could not be reached for details early Wednesday.
