Woman killed, another seriously hurt in Elgin crash

(ELGIN) One woman was killed and another seriously injured in a head-on crash Tuesday morning in northwest suburban Elgin.

The crash happened at Highland and Lyle avenues about 7 a.m., according to a statement from Elgin police. A 2005 Nissan Altima was westbound on Highland Avenue when it crossed the center line and struck a 2014 Honda Civic traveling eastbound.

The driver of the Nissan, 20-year-old Cynthia Vega of Elgin, was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Honda, a 28-year-old Elgin woman, seriously hurt and was taken to Sherman Hospital.
