An extra-alarm fire injured two firefighters and left at least 10 people in need of shelter Sunday afternoon in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side.

Firefighters responded to the fire shortly after 2:30 p.m. in an apartment building in the 2900 block of South Lyman, authorities said.

While battling the blaze, two firefighters suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening and they were taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

At least 10 people were displaced because the building was uninhabitable, Fire Media Affairs said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
