Man charged after $42K in drugs found in NW suburban home, car

(WOODSTOCK) A northwest suburban man was arrested Wednesday after authorities allegedly found more than $42,000 worth of cannabis, pills and mushrooms in his home and car.

Troy Grimes, 20, is charged with five felony counts of possession of cannabis and/or controlled substances, as well as misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a McHenry County sheriff’s office statement.

Authorities stopped a Honda Civic near Rainsford Drive and Jamestown Road, and a drug-sniffing police dog detected the presence of narcotics inside, police claim.

Deputies found 225 grams of high-grade cannabis, 33 methylphenidate pills and packaging materials in the vehicle, authorities said.

They later searched Grimes’ Huntley home and found about 9 pounds of high-grade cannabis, 140 cartridges of concentrated THC oil that can be used in e-cigarettes, 5 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and 24 Morphine Sulfate pills, police said.

The seized narcotics have a street value of more than $42,700, sheriff’s police claim.

Police also found scales, drug paraphernalia and packaging material, and more than $36,800 in cash in the home, authorities claim.

Illinois State Police and deputies investigated the case together after receiving several tips that Grimes was selling cannabis in southern McHenry County, according to the statement.

Grimes was ordered held on an $80,000 bond.
