(MORTON GROVE) A man who escaped from a Morton Grove police lockup facility is now back in custody.

About 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Abdelouahed Zaari, 21, escaped from police custody by “defeating a locking mechanism,” according to a statement from Morton Grove police.

Zaari, of the 6300 block of North Artesian, was taken back into police custody, but officials did not say when. He was originally arrested for traffic offenses and an outstanding warrant for DUI in Lake County, police said.

Authorities are investigating how he was able to escape.
