A Skokie man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison as an armed “habitual criminal,” police said

Blair Aikens, 28, was found guilty last month of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to a statement from Evanston police. He was arrested in Evanston in July 2013 for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Since 2007, Aikens’ criminal record includes convictions of aggravated battery of a peace officer and eluding police, as well as a separate felony weapons conviction, according to court records.

He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, according to police. His next court date was not immediately known.
