Police: Teen stole bicycle and phone, hit victim in head with gun

(EVANSTON) A 15-year-old boy robbed a person at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon, striking the victim in the head with the gun before riding off with his bicycle in north suburban Evanston.

About 4:45 p.m., the teen walked up to the victim, a male of unknown age, in an alley in the 1300 block of Dewey Avenue, pulled a gun and demanded the victim turn over his bicycle and cell phone, according to Evanston police.

After getting the victim off his bicycle, the teen struck him in the head several times with the gun before riding off on the bicycle, police said.

Police found the teen near Crain Street and Dewey Avenue and, after a “brief chase,” took him into custody.

The victim identified the teen, and police recovered the phone and bike, along with a starter pistol, police said.

The teen was charged with aggravated robbery. His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
