A man died after he was shot multiple times and dropped off at a hospital early Thursday on the South Side.

Joseph Lewis, 39, was outside in the 7900 block of South Essex about 2:40 a.m. when someone began firing shots, striking him multiple times, police said.

Friends took Lewis—who lived three blocks north of the shooting—to South Shore Hospital, where was pronounced dead at 3:27 a.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A police source said the man had gang affiliations.
