Man wanted for Sauk Village murder arrested in Georgia

(MARKHAM) A man sought in connection with a fatal shooting last month in the south suburbs is behind bars without bond after being arrested just north of Atlanta.

Devonte Marsh, 19, was taken into custody last week in Georgia by Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies on a warrant from Cook County, according to a statement from Sauk Village police.

The Sauk Village resident was wanted for the murder of 20-year-old Dwayne McCray in Sauk Village, police said.

McCray, of the 1000 block of East 170th in South Holland, was shot in the 21000 block of Peterson Avenue about 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 13, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He died at the scene, and an autopsy showed cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

Marsh was brought back to Illinois on Monday by the Cook County sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit and appeared in bond court Wednesday in Markham, where he was ordered held without bond, police said.

Cherokee County is about 10 miles north of Atlanta.
