Thunderstorms developing in the Chicago area Thursday could bring heavy rainfall and potentially damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a low chance for showers and thunderstorms Thursday morning, though the greatest chance will be Thursday night as temperatures fall through the day into the high 50s.

Some storms may be severe, according to the weather service. Airlines at O’Hare and Midway had canceled more than 470 flights as of 8 a.m., partially in anticipation of the incoming weather.

The main threat of the storms will be damaging straight-line winds, according to the weather service.

By Friday, the temperatures will fall into the upper 40s and lower 50s, according to the weather service, and scattered showers may linger through the day.
