Man charged with DUI, child endangerment in Libertyville

(LIBERTYVILLE) An Arizona man is facing DUI and child endangerment charges after north suburban police found him slumped over in the drivers’ seat with his son sleeping in the back.

About 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1, police responded to the corner of Route 137 and Milwaukee Avenue for a driver slumped over the wheel, according to a statement. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Paul J. Eubank, was found unresponsive at first. When he woke up, he told officers he was taking medication for chronic back pain.

Eubank’s 5-year-old son was sleeping in the backseat, police said. Both were taken to Condell Hospital in Libertyville.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found empty prescription bottles and two liqour bottles—one empty and one open, police said.

Eubank is charged with DUI of drugs and alcohol, DUI of a combination of drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol, child endangerment and operating an uninsured vehicle, police said. He was processed and released after he signed a $3,000 personal recognizance bond.

The state’s Dept. of Child and Family Services took Eubank’s son into protective custody, police said.

Eubank, of the 1800 block of North 89th Avenue in Phoenix, Ariz., will appear in court in Waukegan on Oct. 24.
