One man was killed and two other people were injured in a fire in a senior living center Thursday evening, police and fire officials said.

Fire department crews were called to the 700 block of East 69th Street at 7:40 p.m. and found a fire contained to a single unit, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said.

A 51-year-old man was found dead at the scene, police and fire officials said.

The man was restricted to a wheel chair, 5th District Fire Deputy Chief Jeffrey Horan told reporters at the scene.

A 74-year-old woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, while a third person was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital, also in good condition, police and fire officials said.

The building houses an assisted living facility for seniors, Hernandez said.
