(PALATINE) A 33-year-old woman who claimed she had been stabbed while jogging at a northwest suburban forest preserve fabricated the story, authorities said Tuesday night.
She claimed she was jogging on a Deer Grove Forest Preserve path about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, near Quentin and Dundee roads in Palatine, when a man ran up and stabbed her in the abdomen, according to an initial statement from Cook County Forest Preserve District police.
She drove to a home nearby home on Quentin south of Dundee, where emergency crews were dispatched. She was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said.
But as of Tuesday night, sheriff’s officers think the woman made the story up, said Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff’s office. The woman did have a have a stab wound, but it appeared no one else was involved in the incident, Ansari said.
The sheriff’s office was evaluating possible actions, Ansari said.
