A driver has been charged with leaving a pedestrian critically hurt in a Northwest Side hit-and-run on Friday afternoon.

Rolando Berrios-Rio, 28, drove through a red light in the 1000 block of West Irving Park Road about 1:15 p.m., according to a statement from Chicago Police.

His car struck a 20-year-old man and another vehicle before he pulled over and ran away, police said.

The 20-year-old was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Berrios-Rio, of the 2600 block of North Ridgeway, faces a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident, as well as misdemeanor counts of drving without a license and disobeying a red light, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
