Two Highland Park stores robbed in 24 hours

(HIGHLAND PARK) Police are searching for a man suspected of robbing two businesses in north suburban Highland Park in the last 24 hours.

The first robbery happened about 5:40 p.m. Sunday at a Subway restaurant in the 1900 block of First Street in Highland Park, according to a statement from Highland Park police.

The suspect, who was not armed, demanded that an employee put money in a gray plastic bag, then ran westbound towards Green Bay Road, police said.

The second robbery happened about 7 a.m. Monday at the Elm Place Tailoring Cleaners, in the 500 block of Elm Place. The man also ran westbound after the robbery.

The suspect matched the description of the man in the first robbery, police said.

He is described as a 6-foot white man with a medium build. He was wearing a black winter hat, a dark red face mask, a black jacket with lettering over the left breast and the same lettering on the black, a gray top, black gloves, black tapered pants and dark gym shoes.

Highland Park High School was put on a soft lockdown Monday morning because of the robberies, but the lockdown was lifted as of 11 a.m., according to the District 113 website. All after-school activities will proceed as usual.
