Man in critical condition after jumping onto Metra tracks near Chicago Marathon

A man was critically wounded after he jumped onto the Metra tracks near the Chicago Marathon in the Loop early Sunday morning.

The 44-year-old jumped from the overpass on Congress Parkway onto the Metra tracks south of the Van Buren station about 7 a.m., according to police and Metra officials.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Police said the man was apparently trying to commit suicide.

The Chicago Marathon was scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Columbus Drive at Jackson.

Metra Electric District trains, which were delayed after the incident, were running normally as of 11:15 a.m.
