Man killed, 14 others hurt in Friday shootings

A man was killed and at least 14 other people were hurt in shootings across Chicago on Friday, according to police.

The fatal shooting happened about 4:40 p.m. in Little Village. Johnny Coria, 19, was walking in the 3000 block of South Kedvale when someone walked up and opened fire, police said.

Coria was shot in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, the Cook County medical examiner’s said.

The two most recent shootings left two teenagers wounded within minutes of each other late Friday on the South Side.

About 9:50 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest in the 5100 block of South Aberdeen, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital but his condition wasn’t immediately known.

A 16-year-old girl was shot at 9:48 p.m. in the 3500 block of South Rhodes, police said. She was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in serious condition.

Ninety minutes earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot in the back in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. The shooting happened at 8:35 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Augusta, and he took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said. His condition was unknown.

Two hours before that, a 35-year-old man was shot in the ankle in Englewood. The shooting happened at 6:25 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Sangamon, police said. He took himself to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, but police did not immediately know his condition.

A South Chicago neighborhood shooting left a 24-year-old man wounded about 5:08 p.m., police said. The shooting happened in the 8200 block of South Saginaw but police didn’t immediately provide further information.

Crews responded one minute before that to a shooting in the Washington Heights neighborhood. A 30-year-old man was shot in the leg during a possible robbery at 5:07 p.m. near 95th and Halsted Streets, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.

Two men, ages 22 and 25, were shot on the Far South Side about 4:45 p.m. in the 11800 block of South Lowe. The younger man was shot in the buttocks and the older man in the lower back, police said. They were taken to Christ Medical Center and their conditions were stabilized.

Earlier Friday afternoon, a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg in Austin on the West Side. The shooting happened about 2:20 p.m. in the 4700 block of West Monroe, police said. The man, who police said has documented gang ties, was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.

Another South Chicago shooting left two men wounded about 12:45 p.m. in the 8900 block of South Exchange. The men, 20 and 36, were walking in an alley when someone got out of a dark-colored SUV and opened fire, police said. The younger man was shot in the lower back and the older in the right thigh. They were both taken to Christ Medical Center, where the 20-year-old was in serious condition and the 36-year-old was stabilized, police said.

A 37-year-old was shot in the back and arm about 10:10 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Loomis, police said. He was taken to Christ in serious condition.

About 4:20 a.m., a 37-year-old man walked into Rush University Medical Center at 4:22 a.m. with a graze wound to the abdomen, police said. He told said he was shot in the 700 block of West 19th Place, but was otherwise uncooperative, police said.

Friday’s first shooting occurred about 3:50 a.m. outside a River North nightclub.

A 36-year-old man was standing outside Sound-Bar, 226 W. Ontario, when someone walked up and fired shots, striking him in the back, police said.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said. He could be seen using a cell phone as an ambulance took him away.
