St. Rita’s Kain Harris will mark down Dec. 18, 2014 as a night to remember.

After the 6-3 scoring guard helped the Mustangs knock off state power Simeon, the nation’s No. 12 ranked team, he made his college commitment Friday night, choosing Tulane.

Although Harris says Tulane has “really only been recruiting me for two months,” it was made clear to him the importance the Tulane staff placed on recruiting Harris and the vision Harris has in regard to Tulane basketball.

“It’s the amount of trust and how much I believe in them as a coaching staff,” says Harris of Tulane head coach Ed Conroy and his staff. “I feel like I can fit in well there, and I was very comfortable with them. I also believe in how they develop players and in helping me get to be the best player I can be.”

Harris, among the top 20 prospects in the Class of 2015 in Illinois, has yet to visit Tulane. But he says he will get to the New Orleans campus as soon as he gets a break in his schedule.

After transferring from Morgan Park last year, Harris has settled in as a key component for a St. Rita team that features several Division I players, including Kentucky-bound Charles Matthews. Harris is a big-bodied 2-guard with scoring ability from both beyond the three-point line and getting to the basket with his strength and athleticism.
