The elder statesman for an extremely young Marian Catholic squad, senior guard Chris Austin knows there will be ups and downs this season for the Spartans.

But one thing should never change.

“We have to start just by playing hard,” Austin said. “There will be mistakes. We’re young. The harder we play, the better we’ll play. Run the floor, get easy baskets, play smart and aggressive defense.”

Having played well despite its record through the early part of the season, Marian Catholic notched a dominating win Saturday at the Crete-Monee Shootout, defeating a similarly young Mount Carmel squad 69-45.
