Bartlett High School students hacked into online portal, district officials say

School officials isay two Bartlett High Sschool students hacked into a district-wide online portal and changed attendance records.

Elgin Area District U-46 officials said they became aware of the breach last week and alerted police.

District spokesman Patrick Mogge says the Bartlett High School students got around a firewall and accessed a password-protected portal called Infinite Campus. The portal allows parents and students to view transcripts, report cards, discipline records and other personal data.

John Heiderscheidt, the district’s coordinator of safety and security, says the students changed attendance records but that it doesn’t appear they viewed anything else.

The district would not say what discipline the students could face. No criminal charges have been filed.
