A man accidentally shot himself Saturday evening in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

The 53-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the pelvic area about 5:05 p.m. in the 7300 block of South Chappel, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Police said the man accidentally shot himself. No charges had been filed against him as of Saturday night.
