Three-and-Out: Clausen’s throw to Britton, Long sits

Filed among things you think you’ve never type this season: Jimmy Clausen attempted a pass to offensive lineman Eben Britton in the back of the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line in the second quarter.

Coach Marc Trestman said that Britton was the last option behind tight ends Martellus Bennett and Dante Rosario and receiver Alshon Jeffery. The Lions’ pass rush, Trestman said, forced Clausen’s errant throw, which was incomplete.

“It was exciting,” Britton said after the Lions’ 20-14 win on Sunday. “I was like, ‘Here, it is man, you’re going to score a touchdown and help this team win a game.’ But they made a great play. Maybe, if I had a few more reps of getting up and getting balls, maybe I could have come back and made a play.”

2 Line dancing

Right guard Kyle Long became the final member of the Bears’ Week 1 starting offensive line to miss a game this season, sitting out Sunday with a hip injury.

Michael Ola played in Long’s place, while undrafted rookie Ryan Groy, who was signed to the active roster on Nov. 10, started his second consecutive game at left guard.

“Our guys today did a nice job of taking care of the rush,” Trestman said. “They were up to the challenge.”

3 Avoiding injury

Receiver Marquess Wilson left the game with a left knee injury early in fourth quarter when he was flipped by safety Glover Quin after making a 16-yard catch.

But Wilson, who spent most of the season on short-term injured reserve after breaking his collarbone during camp, said in the locker room that his knee was “good.”
