Jackie Chan’s son indicted on drug charges in China

Jaycee Chan, the son of famous Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan, has been indicted in China for the charge of sheltering others to use drugs. The indictment from Chinese prosecutors comes four months after the younger Chan was arrested and detained by the authorities.

If convicted, Chan could face up to three years in prison.

The 32-year-old singer and actor was among a group of well-known individuals detained over the summer months by Chinese authorities, on charges ranging from drug use to hiring prostitutes. It all is said to be part of the Chinese government’s stated commitment to improve public morals.

What makes Jaycee’s case embarrassing for Jackie Chan is that Jackie was named by the Beijing government as an anti-drug ambassador in 2009.

The younger Chan was arrested with a Taiwanese movie star in Chan’s Beijing apartment in August. Both men tested positive for marijuana use and were caught with about 3.5 ounces of pot.

At the time, Jackie Chan issued an apology in a statement that said he was “very angry and very shocked. As a public figure I am very ashamed. As a father, I am heartbroken.”

There is no word on when Jaycee Chan’s trial will be held. He has appeared in several films and has released three albums.
