One of two men killed in South Loop crash identified

Two people were killed and a third person was critically hurt in a fiery single-vehicle crash early Sunday in the South Loop.

An SUV struck a light pole in the 1200 block of South Clinton at 2:45 a.m., police said. The SUV burst into flames after crashing.

Two men, ages 25 and 42, were dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Mark. A Clifton, of the 9000 block of South Winchester, died of multiple injuries in the crash according to the medical examiner’s office.

The 25-year-old man, who remains unidentified as of Wednesday afternoon, died of multiple blunt force and thermal injuries he suffered in the crash, according to the medical examiner’s office. Inhalation of products of combustion was listed as a secondary cause.

Both of their deaths were ruled accidents.

A 26-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.
