FOR THE GAMER
Not everything starts in Silicon Valley. A handful of games have Chicago roots, and “Destiny” is one. The company that created this first-person, shooter video game is Bungie, which started in Chicago. The company has since relocated, but you can’t take the Chicago out of, well, anything. The game allows players to select a race and a class, although class has more of an effect on the skills and powers your character has access to. (Titan, Warlock and Hunter are the races, and each of those has several subclasses that affect how a player learns warfare or recovers from injury.)
If this all sounds like gobbledygook, that’s OK. For a gamer, this stuff is fun. Plus, the same folks created “Halo” too. So, since Christmas is right around the corner, this is an easy gift to grab. It comes ready for every operating system, and prices are around $39.99. It’s rated T for teen and does have animated blood, plus it has an online component that could potentially expose a player to user-generated, unrated content. It’s not for young kids but perfect for teens and adults.
