(ISLAND LAKE) A northwest suburban man who was caught with more than 200 grams of peyote in cactus plants is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Anthony A. Vangelista, 28, is charged with unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, according to a statement from the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

Authorities executed an arrest warrant for Vangelista in the 100 block of South Circle Drive in Island Lake on Aug. 21, according to the statement.

The Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Sciences Laboratory confirmed the cactus plants were peyote, which contains the hallucinogen Mescaline, a controlled substance, according to the statement.

About 228 grams of peyote were recovered, which have an estimated street value of $1,000, according to Sheriff Bill Prim.

Vangelista was ordered held on a $100,000 bond.
