Two shot, wounded at 95th Street Red Line station

Two people were shot and critically injured Wednesday night at the 95th Street Red Line station on the South Side.

A man and woman were arguing at about 10:45 p.m. on the mezzanine level of the station at 14 W. 95th St., when the man pulled a gun and opened fire, striking the 41-year-old woman in the knee and abdomen, Officer Amina Greer said.

He also shot a 25-year-old man in the chest, Greer said.

Both were taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A 24-year-old man also suffered an injury when his face was hit by shattered glass. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park.

No arrests have been made.

The shooting didn’t affect L service, according to CTA spokeswoman Ibis Antongiorgi.

Sherman Peden, 58, who lives in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, was waiting for a bus early Thursday outside the 95th Street station. He said he uses the stop every day to get to work.

“You hear stuff like this, and you get even more apprehensive,” Peden said. “Like, I want to take a different route.”

Valga Crenshaw, 75, who lives in Beverly and had just gotten off the train, said, “I don’t think it’s no more dangerous here than any place else at this time of night. It could have happened anywhere. You can run and run, but you still can’t hide.”
