Lyons slows down Zach West enough to edge Oswego

Oswego’s Zach West was lighting up the gym Saturday, sharpshooting his way to 14 of his game-high 27 points in the first half against Lyons.

That’s when Lyons’ Jaquan Phipps pulled up his socks, hiked up his shorts, and got after West.

“Jaquan is our best defender,” Lyons guard Harrison Niego said. “We know that if there’s some guy starting to take over a game, we can put Jaquan on him and that will be the end of that.”

Phipps’ defense helped key Lyons’ 68-58 win over Oswego in the second round of York’s 41st annual Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.
