(BARRINGTON) A dog was found dead after a fire at a home in the northwest suburbs early Wednesday.

No one else was hurt in the blaze, which was reported in the basement of a one-story home in the 100 block of South Deerpath Road in unincorporated Barrington about 1:30 a.m., according to the Palatine Fire Department.

The home is located in an area without fire hydrants, so firefighters had to stretch a supply line to a portable water tank, which was continually refilled by tanker trucks from a hydrant about a mile away.

The blaze was fought by 33 firefighters and extinguished just before 2 a.m., according to a statement from the department.

A dog died smoke inhalation, but no one else was hurt in the blaze, according to the statement.

The home was left uninhabitable and four people have been displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
