(JOLIET) Two people were killed and a third remains in critical condition after a shooting Tuesday night in southwest suburban Joliet.

Police responded to the 400 block of Strong Avenue at 5:23 p.m. after a 911 call, and found 17-year-old Joliet resident Tariq Purnell fatally shot in a driveway, Joliet Police Deputy Chief Al Roechner said.

Another man, 30-year-old Lockport resident Keon Kelly, was also found shot, and was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he later died, police said.

Authorities believe the shooting happened outside the home near the driveway, Roechner said. A third man, 18, was shot in the buttocks and ran back inside in the house, where authorities found him.

He was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he is in critical condition, Roechner said.

Autopsies conducted Wednesday found that both Purnell and Kelly died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Will County coroner’s office. Their deaths are being investigated as homicides.

No one is in custody, and police are asking anyone who might have information to call Joliet police at (815) 724-3020 or Will County Crime Stoppers at (800) 323-6734. Cell phone users can text an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 274637 with the words WILLCOCS TIP.
