A 15-year-old boy was shot Tuesday afternoon in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

About 3 p.m., the teen was walking in the 9000 block of South Ada when a male walked up to him and opened fire, police said. The boy ran off and soon after felt pain in his upper back.

He was shot in the back and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
