SHARE Tommy Hamilton scores career-high 27 points in DePaul win

Tommy Hamilton IV scored a career-high 27 points, Myke Henry added 14, and DePaul beat Chicago State 84-60 on Thursday night for its first 5-1 season start in five seasons under coach Oliver Purnell.

Aaron Simpson added a career-high 11 points and the Blue Demons (5-1) outshot Chicago State 56.4 percent to 40.4 percent.

Henry has scored in double figures in all six games.

Clarke Rosenberg led the Cougars (2-7) with 21 points. Joshua Batson added 10. Rosenberg came in averaging 15.5.

DePaul opened with an 8-2 run capped by a free throw by Hamilton and never trailed, pulling away to lead 47-30 at halftime. Hamilton scored 19 points in the half and Henry 14. DePaul shot 60.9 percent from the field to Chicago State’s 44.4 percent.

DePaul outshot the Cougars 37-30 in the second half.

The Blue Demons lead the series against Chicago State 27-6, with five straight victories.
