A man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Friday afternoon in the city’s East Side neighborhood.

James Sweeten, 26, and a 23-year-old man were in the 10600 block of South Avenue O at about 4:45 p.m. when gunman walked out of a gangway and fired at both men before running away, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Both men were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

Sweeten, of the 9800 block of South Avenue L, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

The other man was shot in the left arm and torso, and his condition had stabilized Friday night, police said.
