Margaret Whitley picked the worst night to wake up with a 101-degree fever:
On the eve of her first varsity start, at Batavia no less.
“I didn’t think I’d be able to go in the morning,” the Geneva freshman guard said. “As the day wore on I tried my best to fight through.”
Whitley didn’t play like she was sick, and she didn’t play like a freshman.
Starting because Geneva leading scorer Janie McCloughan was out with a concussion, Whitley scored 20 points to lead the Vikings past Upstate Eight River rival Batavia 56-46 on Saturday.
