Overnight work to continue near I-290/Route 390 interchange

(ITASCA) Work on a new flyover ramp bridge connecting I-290 and Illinois Route 390 will continue overnight, causing a detour for drivers near northwest suburban Itasca.

On Friday, crews were scheduled to begin installing a beam as part of a project that will completely rebuild the interchange, the Illinois Tollway said. The work will continue Monday night, when one lane on the ramp from eastbound I-290 to Route 390 will close at 7 p.m.

The entire ramp will close at 11 p.m., the tollway said. Motorists wishing to exit at Route 390 will instead be directed off the expressway and onto Biesterfield Road, the tollway said. A posted detour will take drivers back to Route 390 via local streets.

One eastbound lane of I-290 will also be closed around the beam installation to accommodate work crews, the tollway said.

Both the ramp and the roadway will fully reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, the tollway said. If weather prevents construction work Monday night, the closure will take place from Tuesday night into early Wednesday instead.

The work is part of the $3.4 billion Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project, the tollway said. Roughly 240,000 vehicles travel through that area every day.
