Injured Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall spent three days in the hospital for a collapsed lung and a pair of broken ribs suffered during Thursday’s loss to the Cowboys.

Marshall took a knee to the back from Cowboys safety Barry Church and couldn’t get up.

He spoke Monday to radio hosts Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman on WMVP-AM’s The Brandon Marshall Show about his season-ending injury and the disappointing year it’s been for him.

“I didn’t know what was going on, but as soon as he hit me I thought there must be some internal bleeding going on,” Marshall said. “But that wasn’t the case. It was just some broken ribs and a collapsed lung. I was in the locker room at halftime trying to come back for this one, but nah that wasn’t gonna happen.”

Marshall said it was the first time he has been unable to get up since a hit from Brian Urlacher at Soldier Field.

“It was really scary, man,” Marshall said. “I’m one of those guys when I hit the ground I try to get up right away, I don’t care how tough it is. I remember getting hit really hard at Soldier Field when I played for the Broncos, and I was supposed to lay there, I was hurt that bad, but the ground was so cold I had to get up. It was after Brian Urlacher hit me. This time I tried to get up and I couldn’t.”

Marshall then proceeded to discuss his disappointment with his and the Bears’ season. It was, statistically speaking, his worst season in Chicago.

“It is the most frustrating season (of my career),” Marshall said. “Not only was I not really productive, I couldn’t really get a flow or rhythm in this offense this year. But two, I wasn’t having fun. We still have three games left, and there could be a lot to get done in the last three games besides make a run at it.

“But this year sucked, man. It really did. It sucks to go out this way, but I’m ready to move forward. … I need to sit back and think some things through, do some self assessment, because I’m at a loss for what really happened this year. I’m getting older and I want to win and I need to figure out what’s going on here.”

Marshall then specifically addressed his numbers.

“My production is at a career-low,” he said. “That’s unacceptable. I just don’t get it. I don’t understand it. I want to be able to do more for the team. … I’m used to catching 100 balls and leaving a fingerprint on every game. I just didn’t feel like I was a part of that this year and it sucks.”
