A woman was struck by a car and killed Monday night in the Wicker Park neighborhood on the North Side.

A 23-year-old woman driving a 2011 Nissan Juke was pulling out of a CVS Pharmacy parking lot about 7:40 p.m. and turning left onto Division Street near Ashland Avenue, when her vehicle struck the pedestrian on the roadway, police said.

The pedestrian, 53-year-old Mary Howard, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Tuesday revealed Howard, of the 1600 block of West Le Moyne Street, died of blunt force trauma of the head when she was struck by the vehicle, the medical examiner’s office said. Her death was ruled an accident.

A police source said she was wearing all black clothing at the time of the crash.

The driver was cited for not exercising due care to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, police said.
